Faces of Dedham: A Portrait of Community

To celebrate 200 years of Dedham Church of England Primary School, Faces of Dedham invites children to create portraits of one another, fostering trust and connection through a shared spiritual experience. These artworks will form part of a public portrait trail through the town, exhibited alongside contributions from the Dedham Art Society, residents of Blackbrook care home and historical works from the Munnings Art Museum. Together, these portraits weave a living tapestry of Dedham’s past, present, and future - honouring its enduring spirit and sense of community.

This summer, we invite members of the local community and visitors to Dedham, to journey through the town to experience Faces of Dedham.  We hope that these artworks inspire you, make you smile and remind you of the beauty found in seeing – and being seen – by one another.

Thank you for being part of our celebration.  We hope you enjoy the trail!

Monday 9th June was 'Portraits Day' and we were delighted to welcome three members of Dedham Art Society into school to support us with our artwork.  Following a whole school assembly to see examples of portraits completed by our visitors and to learn about where to position facial features, children then moved to their treehouses to choose someone to draw from a different class.  Having spent some time looking closely at each other and learning a little bit about one another, the children then got to work!  There was a wonderful buzz about the school as every class embraced the challenge of drawing their treehouse buddy.
