There are 30 children in class four aged between eight and nine.
The children cover a wide range of topics across the year which
run across several areas of the curriculum.
In the Autumn term, Henry VIII and the Tudors form the basis
of our work on historical stories and newspapers in literacy. Interviews
with Henry VIII and work on word-processing skills and formatting
in ICT all come together to produce our own newspaper, The Tudor
Gazette.
In the Spring term, science topics include a unit on moving and
growing in which children learn about how the skeleton is related
to movement and support. Children enjoy the opportunity to measure
their own bones and to compare their length with those of others
in their family. Making measurements and recording and presenting
their findings helps to reinforce work done in numeracy on measurement
and data handling.
In the busy Summer term, children look forward to a variety of
learning opportunities both indoors and outdoors. From improving
their skills on the athletics track and exploring habitats, to
studying about life in India and learning about the Anglo-Saxons,
pupils enjoy the wide-ranging possibilities that the curriculum
offers.
