In class 1 we introduce the children to
the National Curriculum. They follow a structured programme
developing increasing independence in their work and play.
In addition to our normal classroom lessons we undertake
several visits which are linked to the curriculum.

For History we
visit Hollytrees Toy Museum and for Geography we use the
local environment including a trip to our beautiful village.
Science is taught in a variety of ways including practical
investigations and use of the interactive whiteboard.Topics
include plants, ourselves, sound, light and dark, forces
and materials.

Foundation subjects are taught during the
afternoon sessions where the children enjoy using a variety
of resources. Class 1 have benefited from visiting P.E.
specialists to enrich their physical development. To support
these activities new equipment has been provided.

Homework tasks are sometimes
set, in addition to weekly spellings and daily reading.
For example, the children enjoy taking ‘Barnaby Bear’ teddy
home for a weekend, and recording his adventures in a class
scrapbook.
