Each walking bus
is run by parent volunteers and
has an adult ‘driver’ at
the front, an adult ‘conductor’ bringing
up the rear, and adult ‘conductors’ in
between, depending on the age
and the numbers of children.
The children walk to school in
a group along a set route picking
up additional ‘passengers’ at
specific ‘bus stops’ along
the way.
The bus runs rain
or shine and everyone wears a
reflective jacket. Along the
way children can chat to their
friends, learn valuable road
safety skills and gain some independence.
We have two 'buses'
from different locations within
the village.
Duchy Route
The Walking
Bus started on January
19th 2004. Our route walks
on Mondays, Tuesdays
and Wednesdays. We had
10 children when we started,
and the weather was rainy
and cold. Despite this,
the children were happy
to walk and on the second
week we welcomed two
new members. By the third
week we had 16 children
on our route.
We have
finished the term with
18 children and have
7 mothers as volunteers.
We would be able to
take more children if
additional
parents registered—you
do not have to walk every
day!
We currently
have the following places
available, one infant
and five juniors.

Meade Route
The Meade
Walking Bus has proved
very successful. From Monday
to Friday we have on average
30 children each day. On
Wednesdays we have 33!
There are
at present a few places
available with
no-one on the waiting
list, so those of you who
have
children who would like
to join us on this route,
please contact the School
Office.
Additional
adult walkers are always
welcome
and also those willing
to be on call in emergencies
when suddenly a regular
parent helper has to
drop out at short notice. |
Do
consider joining one of the
walking buses, it is good
for the children, the parents
and the environment.
For those of you that
drive, why not join the
bus at one of the stops
and walk the last bit?

our Bus Routes, please
